Courage Award for BEA pupil

Courage Award for BEA pupil

Thomas with his dad and the Mayor and members of the Rotary Club

Our very own Thomas has been recognised at this year’s annual Children of Courage Awards. The special awards are run by the Rotary Clubs of Boston and Boston St Botolph and took place this year at Boston and County Club.

Thomas was accompanied by his dad and teacher, and the event was also attended by the Boston Mayor, Cllr David Brown, and Cllr Mike Gilbert. Thomas was presented with his award by Rotarian David Kendrick.

His Teacher, Silvia Buga said: “Tom inspires everyone he meets with his fun-loving personality and cheeky ways. He lives at home with his wonderful mum, dad and younger brother, whom he adores.

Tom has Cockayne Syndrome, which presents with short stature, photosensitivity, pathological ageing, and Global Development Delay, meaning he requires high levels of specialised support throughout his life. This includes having regular hospital appointments.

Unfortunately, these can sometimes be very distressing for Tom, yet he still shows bravery at every appointment.

Tom also faces many daily challenges, including both visual and hearing impairment and relies on the use of hearing aids and glasses. But he never lets this stop him from taking part in a wide range of experiences. Tom’s sheer determination at trying his best in everything he does is something we all admire. He is an amazing young man, and we are all so very proud of him.”

Sally Jordan, President of Boston Rotary Club closed the event, thanking all involved and congratulating all the award winners.
