New Horticulture Area Takes Shape

New Horticulture Area Takes Shape

Horticulture Area

As you know, Boston Endeavour Academy moved into its new premises in September 2021. Prior to this we were on Ashlawn Drive for 40 years. At our previous address we had an established Horticulture area for our pupils. On the new site, we are starting from scratch.

We are thrilled to report that following lots of support from staff, pupils, and volunteers, the new Horticulture area is developing really well. After some heavy-duty work at the weekends the entire area has now been cleared. With special thanks to The Wyberton Wombles, Coveris, and Willoughby Road Allotments for their support!

BEA offers Horticulture lessons to pupils because this provides the following benefits:

  • Better physical health through exercise and learning how to use or strengthen muscles to improve mobility
  • Improved mental health through a sense of purpose and achievement
  • The opportunity to connect with others – reducing feelings of isolation or exclusion
  • Acquiring new skills to improve the chances of finding employment
  • Just feeling better for being outside, in touch with nature and in the ‘great outdoors’

We are trialling the compost bins within the area for the food waste we have in school, teaching pupils that most of our food waste can be recycled back to grow future food. We have also started to grow a harvest and we now have seedlings emerging for our vegetables!

Watch out for more updates coming soon…
